The Dreaming
"The Dreaming" is an artpop-infused mythic fiction musical featuring the music of Kate Bush. The story follows Cathy, a new visitor to The Dreaming, from the moment she floats through the thick fog surrounding the realm. Memories of the past are obscured in The Dreaming, but Cathy's mission has stuck with her through the fog: to leave any remaining remembrances of her past life behind, and reach the idillic fairy kingdom she'd once heard of in childhood bedtime stories. And then there's the Lantern... What is this glass-enclosed flame that she's entered The Dreaming with? Its value there makes her an instant target, but she's not quite ready to let it go– it's a part of her... However, her sights are narrowed on the fairy kingdom on the other side of the realm. She must get there fast– after all, she is being hunted. The Baron, the menacing tyrant who rules the realm and grips much of the population in fear with his Army Dreamers, is after the lantern, claiming it as his own rightful property. With the help of a strangely familiar taxi driver, a romantic ferrywoman, the fairies, and unexpectedly, the army dreamers, Cathy discovers the true meaning of the lantern and the power she holds with AND without it.

Originally created and rehearsed for Carnegie Mellon University's Playground Festival XIX, which was cancelled before performances due to COVID complications.

We intend to carry this project forward, and several creative team/cast members from the Playground XIX iteration have expressed interest in continuing their roles.

Current work on the project includes revisions and expansions to the script and investigations into how to bring this piece to audiences whilst honoring Ms. Bush's creations and artistry over the music in the piece.
